Writing Sample

 

I have included a paper I wrote on Poulenc's art song "Les Chemins de L'amour".  Poulenc was one of, if not the last composer of the French mélodie.  This music was part of Jean Anouilh's play Léocadia.  The refrain of "Les Chemins de L'amour" serves as the leitmotiv  for the couple in the play.  My argument in this paper is: because the refrain of "Les Chemins de L'amour" also serves as the thematic music for the couple in Léocadia, Poulenc made it as memorable and lyrical as possible.
