Vocal Warm-ups
On this page, you'll find several vocal warm-ups. Most of them are included for different reasons, but many of them accomplish the same goal. When the text is in brackets, that means that the sounds are based on the International Phonetics Alphabet and should be read and sung as stated.
The descending passages all help bring the sound of the voice forward because of the vowel and conosonant combinations. Bringing the tone foward can also aid some diction issus . Descending patterns also encourage singers to bring the head voice down further.
The patterns with the octave leap prepare students for octave leaps in the repertoire. When I'm teaching octave leaps to young singers, I really insist on them focusing on the preparation before the "high note", not on it. If a singer only thinks about the "high note", they won't be successful. Singing is about the whole journey, not just the destination.
